Premier Inn Hotel, Yeovil

The Project:

A two storey 1960’s Gateway supermarket in Yeovil town centre has been converted into an 80 bed Premier Inn hotel with a Beefeater restaurant and three shell retail units.

This project was particularly challenging for the construction team; following the removal of asbestos, the roof and first floor structure were demolished. A new steel grillage was then installed, fixed to the existing columns which formed the base for the new two storey timber framed hotel. This lead to the necessity of strengthening several existing columns and the installation of a new piled foundation to one internal column.

Lift shafts and stair cores were also inserted into the existing building.

Dry construction was used throughout with the external walls being finished with render and rain screen cladding.

The Beefeater shell was handed over for Whitbread to fit out several months in advance of hotel completion so that both elements were open to trade at the same time..
